I'm sure there are other parts like it that completely work. That moment between BJ and the old lady when they are having a pissing contest about their injuries worked just fine. Having a dark sense of humour is not the problem. You can be serious about stupid things and it can even work. Being self-serious about the subject material isn't the problem. Having stupid things in it, like Nazi mechs, isn't the problem. Not high art or anything, but a straight-up mystery story just with Nazis everywhere, isn't it? It's been a while but I remember Fatherlands being a mostly pretty serious detective story. I was getting a similar impression of Basterds/Fatherland with a dash of other stuff. I guess it's extremely European humor, which probably makes sense considering it was developed in Sweden with mostly Swedish writers (Tom Keegan, the only American writer credited, primarly seems to have been involved in casting), and, well British humor is extremely popular over here. All the trailers I've seen have had pretty dry but still very evident dark humor.

I thought it stayed pretty close to something of a hybrid between Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards remake and the old Rutger Hauer movie Fatherland. Huh, I never got the sense that this would be a serious, gritty WWII shooter from the marketing campaign. Sure, he and anyone gets lost or stuck during the game, but he knows what he wants to show, and if Brad would take some hints from what I perceive to be Jeff's method I feel like the Quick Looks he leads will become a lot more streamlined and much shorter because of it. I feel like Jeff is the best when it comes to Quick Looks as when he leads a Quick Look he knows what he wants to show, his language is direct and to his knowledge of the game in which he is demonstrating, and there is very little fresh discoveries. If anything he just needs to have a solid plan and show a slice of what he finds cool and to drop going in this blind to what is coming up. Having literally no forward knowledge of what is coming hinders the viewing experience because you answer with a lot of "I don't know/I'm not sure, but" and subconscious decisions made during natural playing experiences where you the player think "maybe I should go this way or that way" but laid out in front of you. I've noticed that Brad tends to lead the long ass Quick Looks because of how indecisive he is when demonstrating the game which he is playing.
